Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his warning to alleged syndicates and goons to surrender before April 29, saying such threats would not influence voters in West Bengal. Speaking at a rally in Sagar, he advised the Prime Minister to “keep a cool head” and asserted that even deploying measures like SIR would not change the outcome.
Responding to repeated attacks by the BJP during election campaigning, Banerjee alleged that multiple institutions, including investigative agencies and constitutional bodies, were being used politically. He maintained that the people of Bengal had already made up their minds and expressed confidence in the return of the ruling party.
Addressing the gathering in support of Sagar assembly constituency candidate Bankim Hazra, Banerjee also raised the issue of pending financial dues to the state. He questioned why funds were not being released immediately if the Centre intended to bring development, and highlighted local development work while promising completion of the Muriganga bridge project within two years.
